"2009 Hentschel - Oestreich Architekten/ Schultes Frank Architekten/ van Gerkan, Marg und Partner (gmp) Germany's shortest underground line extends underneath the government district to the Brandenburger Tor, 1.2 miles away. By the year 2017 it is planned to be extended to the Alexanderplatz and connected to the rest of the network. The 36 feet high station underneath the main station (no. 509), designed by gmp, features white enamel sheets and images of former longdistance stations. The station in the middle is called »Bundestag« and was designed by Axel Schultes and Charlotte Frank, who also erected the neighbouring Federal Chancellery (no. 476). The station clearly reflects related elements, such as the round piers, which are proportioned differently. The galleries along the platforms were conceived as access to the planned above-ground »Bundesforum«. However, it is questionable whether this planned central element of the "Band des Bundes (Band of the federation)" by Schultes Frank wilJ ever be implemented. The terminal station is 11Unter den Linden«, designed by Axel Oestreich. On the platform, a total of 19 pairs of support are reminiscent of the Brandenburger Tor (no. 40), whose history is told on black enamel boards."
