"Given the breadth of the Aman portfolio (36 properties across 20 countries), I’m going to structure this as a brand overview with a deep focus on **Amangiri** — the one Aman property that aligns most directly with your road trip DNA, your canyon country familiarity, and your proximity in Colorado. It’s also the most relevant for your retirement travel planning. ----- ## Aman Luxury Properties **MAPSTR TITLE** Aman Resorts – The world’s most private luxury brand; start with Amangiri, Utah ----- ### 0 | OVERVIEW Founded in 1988 by Indonesian hotelier Adrian Zecha, Aman — meaning “peace” in Sanskrit — now operates 36 properties in 20 countries. Most Aman properties feature fewer than 40 rooms, an unheard-of ratio in the luxury hospitality world. Some have just 10 villas in total, ensuring exclusivity and quiet. Aman architecture is built to blend with its surroundings — from the desert of Utah to the forests of Bhutan to the beaches of the Philippines. Expect intuitive, unobtrusive service where team members know your preferences without asking. There is no loyalty program, no branding on the towels, no lobby gift shop hawking branded sunscreen. What you get instead is a property so embedded in its landscape it seems to have grown there naturally — and a staff-to-guest ratio that reportedly runs six staff to one guest at many properties. ----- ### 1 | THE BRAND IN BRIEF — WHAT MAKES AMAN DIFFERENT Aman occupies a category above Five Stars that doesn’t have a widely accepted name. A few defining characteristics: **Scale:** The smallest Aman property, Aman-i-Khas in India, has exactly 10 rooms (luxury tents). The largest, Aman Tokyo, has just 84 rooms. At most properties you’ll recognize the other guests by name within a day. **Design philosophy:** Every property is site-specific — designed by architects given the mandate to disappear into the landscape. Each resort feels specific to its environment — not transplanted but entwined with culture, landscape, and rhythm. **Service philosophy:** The service is flawless and every last detail refined, but there is nothing at Aman that screams extravagance — it is for travelers who don’t need to be impressed by material things, for wanderers who care about things like environmental conservation and cultural integration. **Price reality:** Rooms typically start at $1,000/night and run to $5,000+ for suites. Most properties add meals (sometimes mandatory) and activities on top. There is no loyalty program, but Virtuoso-affiliated bookings unlock daily breakfast, complimentary room upgrades, and a property amenity credit. American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts offers similar perks including guaranteed 4pm late checkout and a $100 property credit. ----- ### 2 | THE U.S. PROPERTIES — CLOSEST TO HOME For a Colorado-based road tripper, two Aman properties are within striking distance: **Amangiri, Canyon Point, Utah** — The flagship American Aman, and one of the most celebrated desert properties on earth. Full review below. **Amangani, Jackson Hole, Wyoming** — The first Aman in North America, reopening Summer 2026 after deep renovation. It sits on a butte at 7,000 feet elevation on the eastern slope of the Teton Range, with panoramic views of the Snake River Valley, three ski resorts, and Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Worth watching for a post-renovation visit — the renovation by Kerry Hill Architects updates interiors while maintaining the original architectural DNA of sandstone, redwood, and Oklahoma flagstone. ----- ### 3 | DEEP DIVE: AMANGIRI, CANYON POINT, UTAH This is the one, Bill. You’ve driven UT-95 through canyon country, you’ve explored Hanksville to Moab, and you have a native appreciation for the Colorado Plateau’s scale and silence. Amangiri is that landscape distilled into 34 suites. **Location & Getting There** Located in the Four Corners region where Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado meet, Amangiri sits in a protected valley with sweeping vistas at the heart of America’s Grand Circle. Five national parks, numerous national monuments, and the Navajo Nation Reservation surround the resort. The Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Zion are all roughly a two-hour scenic drive away. The resort is a 25-minute drive from the nearest town of Page, Arizona and 15 minutes from Lake Powell. Closest airports: Page Municipal (PGA) for a tiny regional hop, or a 4.5-hour drive from Las Vegas (LAS) or 5 hours from Phoenix (PHX). From Littleton, it’s a reasonable 7–8 hour drive through scenery you’d stop for anyway. **The Experience** The winding road to Amangiri is an expedition in itself. An almost secret location — a simple unassuming sign and a small gate with an intercom are all that greet guests. The pool is the first thing you see and the last thing you forget. It wraps around a natural sandstone mesa like liquid concrete, the water so still and the stone so ancient that the boundary between what’s built and what was always here dissolves completely. **Rooms** The 34-suite resort is tucked into a protected valley with sweeping views of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Adjacent to it, the 10 tented pavilions of Camp Sarika each feature expansive living areas and a private plunge pool. Request a Desert Pool Suite — it feels like having your own private sanctuary carved into the desert. The private pool is not just a beautiful feature — it becomes essential during the summer heat and transforms into a serene oasis as the sun sets over the mesas. **What’s Included** Rates include breakfast, lunch, and dinner with all non-alcoholic drinks, pickup service from Page Municipal Airport, WiFi, guided hikes, fitness classes, gym, pool, steam room, sauna, and plunge pools. **What Costs Extra (Know Before You Go)** A guided Antelope Canyon tour through the resort runs approximately $240 per person — the same tour booked independently costs $60. The Via Ferrata climbing experience costs $900 per travel party. Spa treatments run $300–500 beyond any included credit. A realistic three-night stay for two, doing the Via Ferrata, one Antelope Canyon tour, a Lake Powell boat day, two spa treatments each, and moderate drinking, runs approximately $20,000–22,000 including tax. This is not a misprint. Book excursions independently where possible — Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend tours are easy to arrange yourself through local Navajo operators. **Dining Caveat** The breakfast and lunches are excellent, but dinners in the Dining Room can disappoint — the menu is limited and doesn’t change night to night. Camp Sarika’s alfresco restaurant is notably better for dinner. If staying more than two nights, alternate dinner venues. **Utah Liquor Laws** No displayed bar at the resort due to Utah’s liquor laws. Alcohol is available but not prominently featured. Stock a personal wine preference ahead of time. ----- ### 4 | OTHER AMAN PROPERTIES WORTH KNOWING For future retirement travel beyond the U.S.: **Amanpulo, Philippines** — The quintessential private island sanctuary. Situated on a secluded island in the Sulu Sea, consistently rated among the top luxury beach escapes globally. Its essence is isolation — a world unto itself devoted to intimate escape. **Aman Venice, Italy** — A 16th-century palazzo on the Grand Canal with just 24 suites. The most historically significant property in the portfolio. **Amandari, Ubud, Bali** — Conceptually inspired by Balinese village life and spatial harmony, with quietly dramatic rice terrace and river valley views and deep cultural resonance. **Aman Sveti Stefan, Montenegro** — A 15th-century fortified fishing village on a rocky island off Montenegro’s Adriatic coast, connected to the mainland by a narrow stone causeway. Reopening June 2026 after renovation. **Aman Kyoto, Japan** — Hidden in a private forest above the city. One of the most architecturally pure properties in the portfolio. ----- ### 5 | BOOKING INSIDER NOTES - No direct Aman loyalty program. Book through Virtuoso or American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts for the best added-value perks — breakfast, upgrades, and property credits that can offset $200–500 of daily spend. - Book shoulder seasons at Asian properties for the best value proposition. For Amangiri, avoid June–August heat (105°F+ days) and the peak Instagram crowd. March–May and October–November are the sweet spot. - Book excursions for Amangiri independently through local Navajo-operated tour companies — same experiences at a quarter of the resort markup. - Aman is currently raising $2 billion for global expansion and recently received a $900 million investment from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. The brand is growing fast — the intimacy and restraint that define it may shift. Amangiri now is arguably better than Amangiri five years from now. ----- ### 6 | WILLIAM’S RETIREMENT VERDICT Amangiri is the one Aman property that aligns perfectly with your road trip instincts and your canyon country familiarity — it’s the Colorado Plateau you already love, just with a concrete pool wrapping a sandstone mesa and a staff ratio that makes it feel like they built the place for you personally. The price is genuinely staggering, but if there’s one splurge-worthy property within day-trip range of Colorado, this is it. Do it as a standalone 3-night drive-in from Littleton, pair it with Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon on your own terms, and skip the resort’s activity markups entirely. First move: arrive at sunset, find a seat at the fire pit terrace, and let the mesa do its thing. ----- ### MAPSTR TAG TABLE |Place Name |Emoji|Mapstr Notes | |-----------------------|-----|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| |Amangiri |🏨 |Canyon Point, UT; Aman’s flagship US desert resort; 34 suites; $3,000–5,000+/night; 7–8 hr from Littleton| |Camp Sarika at Amangiri|🏨 |10 tented pavilions adjacent to Amangiri; private plunge pool each; better dinner than main resort | |Amangani |🏨 |Jackson Hole, WY; reopening summer 2026 post-renovation; Teton views; 7,000 ft elevation | |Aman New York |🏨 |Crown Building, 5th Ave & 57th St; 83 suites; Japanese-inspired; best urban Aman for NYC visits | |Aman Venice |🏨 |16th-century palazzo on Grand Canal; 24 suites; most historically significant Aman | |Aman Sveti Stefan |🏨 |Montenegro; 15th-century island fortress; reopening June 2026; celebrity history | |Amandari |🏨 |Ubud, Bali; rice terrace & river valley views; deep Balinese cultural immersion | |Amanpulo |🏨 |Private island, Philippines Sulu Sea; most secluded Aman; barefoot tropical luxury | |Aman Kyoto |🏨 |Hidden in private forest above Kyoto; architecturally pure; ideal for Japan cultural trip |"

"The five-star Amangiri resort in the stark deserts of southern Utah’s Canyon Point embraces a minimalist design inspired by its natural desert surroundings. Rooms are built with this peaceful environment in mind, and most suites include floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that open up to patios with sweeping views of the arid desert. If you really want to commune with nature, stay in a tented pavilion with a private plunge pool. Unwind in your serene suite and awaken your mind and body as you contemplate the sublime scenery from your personal outdoor lounge."

"GLH | 3 Michelin Keys | From €1950pn | An Aman jewel 45 rooms Our preference for quirky little independent hotels goes right out the window when the chain we’re talking about is one of Aman's caliber — which, if we’re honest, can only mean Aman itself. It’s hard to think of a less predictable setting than southern Utah for their latest outpost, Amangiri, but the otherworldly landscape is inspiring indeed, and serves as the ideal canvas for what is by any reasonable standard an architecturally distinguished property. Some designers might try to temper the hard edges of the Southwestern desert with plush, ornate interiors. These villas go the other way, with concrete walls and rough timber furnishings which strain the usual limits of minimalism. Of course, given Aman's dedication to luxurious living, the visual impression is only half the story — while the visual contrasts may be sharp, the tactile sensation is as plush as it gets. (And for an experience that’s somewhat closer to nature, they’ve added Camp Sarika, a set of ten tented pavilions a five-minute drive from Amangiri proper, each one equipped with its own private plunge pool, and sharing a restaurant, a swimming pool, and a spa.) The result is as soothing as minimalism was always supposed to be, and somehow manages to make this alien landscape feel inviting — and that’s before you even take account of the spa, the swimming pool, the yoga pavilion and the open-kitchen Dining Room. It may literally be half a world away from Aman’s Pacific-rim beginnings, but it’s proof that with the right execution there’s no limit to how far the Aman concept can travel. How to get there: Amangiri is located 25 minutes (by car) from the Page Airport in Page, Arizona. Amangiri provides complimentary transfers between the resort and Page Airport. Alternatively, car transfers are available between the resort and St George, Utah, Flagstaff and Phoenix, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada. Private air charters can be arranged for a variety of budgets and arrival times."

"This coveted, 600-acre sanctuary thrives on creating bespoke experiences that celebrate isolation from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Glamping takes on new meaning at Amangiri’s newest addition: the 136-acre Camp Sarika, which opened in July of this year in the Utah desert.. Camp Sarika holds a maximum of 30 guests in 10 tented pavilions, each with their own plunge pool and outdoor deck. Each tent is covered by a soft canvas made from recycled plastic bottles that is able to withstand up to 12 tons of snow. Here, privacy and escapism reign supreme."

"Amangiri – Aman’s second property in the USA – is located on 600 acres in Canyon Point, Southern Utah. The resort -by far the best luxury hotel in the USA – is tucked into a protected valley with sweeping views towards the Grand Staircase – Escalante National Monument. Built around a central swimming pool with spectacular views, the stunningly beautiful resort blends into its dramatic surrounds where deep canyons and towering plateaus create a raw landscape of immense power. Amangiri’s unrivalled backcountry access allow guests to explore the region’s striking desert scenery on foot. Amangiri also features a high-end ‘glamping’ site – called Camp Sarika – which is linked to the main resort."
